Community-Based Program Director: Nikki Restino, B.S.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Health Education. SUNY Cortland.
What I Do: As a Program Director my role involves assessing and enrolling participants in the BBBS program. I then match adult volunteers (“Bigs”) with children (“Littles”) that share similar interests and would benefit from a mentoring relationship with a positive and supportive adult. I also serve as a resource/support person throughout the duration of each match by maintaining contact with all parties (Big, Little, & Little's family) to ensure open communication. As the Broome County BBBS program grows, I will be responsible for supervising the Community Based program manager’s and assist them with their matches.
What Drew Me to BBBS: Prior to BBBS I worked with many children and families in after-school and summer camp program settings. I realized there was a significant demand for one on one attention to help children reach their full potential. I wanted to be involved with an organization that would have a positive impact on a child’s future. The BBBS vision and mission is the key to every child’s success which drew me to the program. I am passionate about keeping children safe and have them achieve goals beyond what they think their reach is. I am ready to grow the BBBS program in Broome County for that reason. I love the fact that BBBS gives children one on one attention that they need to grow; giving littles the chance to be productive and achieve success and have the Bigs help them achieve their goals. One of the main reasons I was interested in the organization is that I want to give every child the opportunity to be successful and realize their full potential.
Goals for the Program: My goal is to grow the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Broome County to serve more children in the area with the primary focus of helping our little's succeed in every aspect of their lives.
